Ystrad Prosper in the Mud

Ystrad Rhondda advanced to the next round of the Swalec Plate but they were pushed all the way by a workmanlike Fairwater outfit.

It was a game of endless endeavour on a seriously heavy pitch at Ashcroft Park with tries coming from Ystrad’s Dai Gratton and Anton Phillips for the home side. The boot of Alex Webber proved to be the difference on the day as the visitors won the game by 16 points to 5.

Pontypridd power past Cardiff

Pontypridd re-established their four point lead at the top of the Principality Premiership with a hard-fought 20-6 victory at Cardiff.

Title rivals Neath had joined the Valley Commandos on 84 points following their victory at Cross Keys the previous evening, but a supreme effort from the Ponty pack helped lay the foundations for a sixth consecutive league win.

Cardiff High School suffered a thumping home defeat on Saturday as Llanhari bounced back from only their second defeat of the season in style.

At times the visitors were simply irrepressible as they feasted on nine tries, with sloppiness the only reason they didn’t add more to their 53-17 win.
